This video shows my 7th and 3rd laps, respectively. My third was my fastest of the day. I tried going the other way in the first optional slalom on the 4th and blew a gate. I missed the same cone in laps 5 and 6, the rear end got loose in the first part of 7 (as you can see), and 8 was mostly clean but about 0.4s slower than lap 3.
What went well –
- The car gripped well and its narrow width helped me sneak through a few of the gates. Suck it, Corvettes.
- I was able to put the power down fairly judiciously (see throttle position).
- I’m getting better about really using the brakes and actually ran into ABS a few times, which is something I haven’t done since ditching the front all-seasons.
- Loosening the front sway bar helped reduce understeer, though it still pushed at the limit through the turnaround point.
What didn’t go so well –
- The brakes are still mushy even after a fresh bleed with RBF600.
- The alignment shop got my specs wrong and gave me rear toe out instead of toe in (hence the lap 7 excitement).
- The engine’s powerband is done by 4500rpm. Watch and see how much time I spend above 4500rpm. I need a cam.
Overall it was a blast and I’m working on closing the gap between me and the stock class cars with good drivers. I’m sure in another 20 years I’ll have it.
